At Concord University, I enrolled in a class entitled "Arts Administration." The course was designed to teach students how to produce, design, manage and market a creative organization (i.e., theatre, art galleries, music, etc). For the extent of the course, I focus my efforts on the Morgan Arts Council's Ice House in my hometown of Berkeley Springs, WV.

The MAC Ice House is an organization with the purpose of introducing the arts into the community of the Eastern Panhandle.

Below were marketing pieces that I wrote to promote the organization as well as potential events. (Disclosure* The press release and PSA were practiced in marketing the arts in the 21st century, and do not represent an actual event.)

BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV— Filling the Ice House this March for its annual Youth Art Show will be the artwork created by the students in the Morgan County public and homeschool systems. On display, the exhibit will showcase the artwork students created during this most unusual year due to the pandemic. The Ice House will host and cater the event from March 5th - April 4th, 2021 between the hours of 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Friday through Sunday. You’ll be amazed and inspired to see how the students of Morgan County have persevered under these circumstances with their expressions of determination, optimism, caring, and creativity on full display. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for members, and $5 for students.

The Youth Art Show is part of the MAC Ice House Adopt-a-School Program and is one of MAC’s longest-running programs. It brings artists into all Morgan County schools for short-term residencies and assembly programs that meet core curriculum objectives. Every March until the beginning of April, the MAC Ice House selects artwork from children in all seven Morgan County schools plus homeschoolers to exhibit a diverse display of art.

This year the art on display was curated by Hiroko Rubin. Hiroko Rubin had this to say requiring the art on display, “Our artists have been working through the pandemic and, just like all of us…it’s driving creativity and I am thrilled to present art by the children of Morgan County and showcase their unique talents.”

Another upcoming event to help celebrate Youth Art Month at the Ice House is Youth Art Saturday, which inspires students to get creative. This event will teach children and young adults from the ages of 8 and up to learn how to paint like the impressionists and be inspired by artists like Monet! Anna Ruggiero will guide participants on how to paint impressionist art on March 21st at either 9:30 am or 11 am. This event is FREE! But donations are warmly accepted and all supplies will be included. Parents are welcome to attend. To enroll, call 304-258-2300!
