POETRY BY GRACE WATSON
To showcase my creative writing skills as well as put my minor in English to good use, readers can read some of my poetry and prose here until I can finish writing and publish my work.
FEEDING THE BEAST
A fire started
A spark flashed before my eyes
Like a cannon in a war zone
Motivation is a fickle beast
Feed it once and it may never be hungry again
Feed it once and it will only know starvation.
"MORE!," it says through gnashed teeth
Fangs and talons consume even the bones that are fused to the helpless meat.
Self-help books
Free courses
Scavenging LinkedIn job postings
Filled with lies
Salaries are ominously left blank.
Or suspiciously high.
Nothing comes too easy to those that wait
But it was the turtle that won the race.
Chew slowly.
HOURGLASS OF EMPLOYMENT
a poem
i don't want to forget myself
but i don't even know who i am
i am trapped in an hourglass ~
changing cover letters and resumés to fit a narrow description like sand through time.
The dichotomy of running out of time and having all of the time in the world
begins to break my fragile countenance.
my world lacks stability depending on which side the hourglass is flipped.
No legacy can prosper in the soil of anonymity
But forgetfulness is a weed that is lost to time.
i'm lost and forgotten
Success escapes my grasp like grains of sand
and my efforts sink in the quicksand of applications and unprecedented times. #OpentoWork
